Day 4 of my "no refined sugar or wheat" experiment.........today is proving a bit more difficult than I want to admit. Sugar.....my drug of choice. What this means is that I have to literally change everything about my consumption habits. And I mean everything.
Admittedly, the hardest part will be for Whitney. She has only asked for some sugar based food about a dozen or so times. As I made the sweet tea, she had to pause to tell me she wanted her own pitcher of sweetened tea and explained how to make 2 pitchers of tea. So so so funny.
I had to take blueberries to my blood donation because all the blood bank offers is sugar and wheat products. At the grocery store, I had to consistently return items to the shelf because in the ingredient somewhere was wheat, oat or sugar. While Whitney had a sandwich, I made meat and cheese roll-ups with a cup of broccoli cheddar soup. And I do not like unsweetened tea, but I was tired of drinking water.
Enough complaining. My sweet niece posted a picture of me on FB, and as I stared into my allergy red and tired eyes, all I could think was enough. I am overweight, and it is time to stop carrying all this dead weight. Like apathy, it's time to get rid of that which doesn't serve me well.
I can do this. I can do anything I set my mind to.
Today's recipes:
Protein balls
2 cups trail mix (the one without candy or chocolate chips)
1 cup peanut butter
1/2 rolled oats
Melt the peanut butter in a microwave safe bowl and drizzle over the trail mix. Add enough oats to the mixture for the balls to form. I added a lil bit of nutella as well.
I had two protein balls with half a banana and a cup of coffee.
Meat and Cheese Roll-Ups
Sliced smoked turkey (4 slices)
1 slice pepper jack cheese
Lay the meat out accordion style. The result will be a stack a bit wider than one slice by itself. Lay the sliced cheese in the middle and begin rolling.
Just a couple of small changes today, but necessary ones. Normally on the weekends I make french toast or pancakes and drizzle with lots of syrup.
So, if you are on this journey, too, hang in there. Baby steps.............baby steps.
